"Art is produced by those who quietly work away to cmmunicate what's impressed upon their mind's eye.
His obsession with the light of his village keeps him striving to portray it. Nothing, neither lak of time nor the almost impossible task of seeing reality, stops him!"
Ricardo Gómez, published on Europa Sur
"Juan Lobillo, a talent born in the mountains of Jimena de la Frontera, is gradually emrging into well deserved public notice.
This thirty two year old artist has been on the road to success for some time, having built for himself a solid foundation of hard work.
He started painting when he was ten or eleven years old, earning the money to buy materials by doing extra jobs after school. Finally he was allowed to enrol in La Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Algeciras where he stayed for two years. He then went on to Barcelona to study privately.
Juan's special technique is his own. He has always painted in oils and had made full use of the variety that this medium offers. His style has evolved over the years, now achieving a madurity and perception, the development of which is obvious when seeing an anthology of his work.
His interpretation of nature and romantic approach to the every day things around us, make his pintings not only unusual but also delightfully demonstrative.
His style, reminiscent of the Impressionists, seems to vibrate with luminosity and life. Indeed, light, is the one factor that is absolutely essential to Juan and you can see his passionate interpretation of the clear, clean light so unique to this part of the world.
His work concentrates mainly on life around him, a scene from a window maybe, or an unnoticed corner from behing a "reja" will be brought to life, or spring time fields abundant with new growth. His favourite landscapes and combinations involve people or individuals who just happened to belong there at the time. Whatever the subject, fone feels the tremendous surge of energy that radiates from Juan's canvases, plus his talent for making us, the viewers, observe with fresh eyes, scenes that we would otherwise take completely for granted.
His first exhibition in 1.975 when he was only fourteen years old, was in his home town of Jimena de la Frontera. That was just the beginning. Since then he has gone on to exhibit in Algeciras, Chiclana where two of his painting were chosen out of hundreds submitted for a collection of forty exhibits. Later on in 1.983 four more of his paintings were sent to London for an exhibition of different techniques and they were subsequently sold.
A lot of Juan's work has been sold in Madrid and Barcelona and of course there have been buyers closer to home form Algeciras, Gibraltar and Sotogrande.
It will be well worth going to his exhibitions, as who know his work will endorse, and for those who haven't yet seen it will have the opportunity to discover for themselves the talent for Juan Lobillo"
